Temperament

The Goldendoodle is a very fun, lively, happy breed who will thrive in any household that it can be included in for activities, outings and tasks. This breed is a working breed at heart so it is important to remember that when considering adding one to your family. The Goldendoodle is a great choice for you and your family if you enjoy hikes, outdoor sports, adventures and even travel. This breed will always be happy to tag along. They are known for being greeters to friends and family, and enjoying the company of other dogs and pets, however to ensure this, it’s very important to instill early socialization at a young age. Daily walks and playtime along with mental stimulation (such as a dog puzzle or other games) will surely be enough to tire out your pup. These teddy-bear like puppies are big fans of cuddling and being as close to you as possible!

Appearance

The Standard Goldendoodle is a large breed with males and females weighing 50-70lbs in weight and measuring no less than 21 inches in height. Medium sized Goldendoodles can be expected to weigh between 35-50lbs in weight and measure up to 19 inches in height. This breed generally has wavy to curly fur that is soft and low shedding, however some Goldendoodles have a straight hair coat. Their two round eyes are brown to black in color. Their large noses can be red, brown or black in color. Their ears are large, oblong in shape and hang gently along the side of their face. Their tail is medium to long in length and is generally carried up and curved. Their hair will continue to grow long and shaggy if not kept groomed and shorter to their body. Their coat is available in light cream, cream, red, black, apricot, chocolate, silver, gray and many others.

Grooming

This breed does require regular daily brushing and regular professional grooming to prevent mats.

Special Notes

It is highly recommended that you fully educate yourself about the Goldendoodle prior to adding one to your family to ensure that you are able to make a life long commitment to your new pup. Do not add this breed to your home unless you are able to provide life long physical and financial care. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.

Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2024. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.

History

The Goldendoodle is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States today, seen in almost every neighborhood around. With several sizes to choose from (Standard, Medium, Miniature, Toy and Micro) along with their low shedding fur and family friendly personalities, they truly are fit for almost every family and living environment.
